John Pfahl

Being a celebrated artist and photographer – he studied art at Syracuse receiving a B.F.A. in 1961 and a M.A. in 1968. His work focuses on bridging the natural world, with perceptual interventions on the natural landscape. An interesting quality of his work is the simultaneous flattening and expanding of the space within the frame. The geometrical optical effects that occur, provide a sense of flatness (as if reading a drawing), yet resting against the natural landscape provides the mental expansion needed to understand the depth in the image.
